SIBUR Shapes the Future: A Growth Strategy with Care for People and the Planet

Russia’s largest producer of modern synthetic materials, SIBUR, has presented its sustainable development strategy through 2030, emphasizing environmental stewardship and social well-being. The company also reviewed the results of its work in this area over the previous five-year period.

According to Mikhail Karisalov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, the initiative represents a partnership between the state and business, where the government sets strategic benchmarks and enterprises contribute through concrete initiatives. The program is built upon cutting-edge technologies and global trends—from chemical recycling to the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

SIBUR highlights that modern synthetic materials are becoming an integral part of the global energy transition and the green economy. In this context, the company plans to increase the volume of recycled plastic waste to 600,000 tons, and the production of goods containing bio-based feedstock to 400,000 tons annually.

The strategy also includes a 10% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the prevention of 20,000 tons of waste from being sent to landfills.

As for the social dimension, a range of initiatives has been implemented by the company in Tobolsk, home to SIBUR’s major production facilities, including comprehensive urban development programs and projects focused on environmental education.

Altogether, this reflects a mature approach to sustainable development, aligned with national priorities.
