The Commission for Scientific and Technological Development (STR) of Russia in its updated composition has approved the passport of the national project ‘Technological Support of the Bioeconomy.’ This decision, made during the commission's first meeting, brings Russia closer to achieving technological sovereignty in this key area.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed that the national project aims at ‘Russia achieving technological sovereignty in bioeconomy by 2030 through halving import dependence, and by 2036—full leadership in this sphere.’ Biotechnology, according to President Vladimir Putin's decree, has been recognized as one of the most important science-intensive technologies.
Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin presided over a strategic session dedicated to this national project. It was noted that the Russian Federation already boasts over 220 bioeconomy product manufacturers and about 50 research institutes conducting relevant research.
The national project will include three federal projects: ‘Organization of production and stimulation of sales of bioeconomy products,’ ‘Scientific and technological support for bioeconomy development,’ and ‘Analytical, methodological and personnel support for bioeconomy.’
Within the framework of the national project, it is planned to create world-class scientific centers, pilot industrial production sites, new laboratories and other facilities, all aimed at developing bioeconomy in Russia.
