The international forum ‘BIOPROM: Industry and Technology for Humans,’ scheduled for October 6–7, 2025 in Gelendzhik, was presented at the G20 Initiative on Bioeconomy meeting. During the session, Deputy Director of the Department of Chemical Industry of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Daria Shevyakina, emphasized the significance of the forum in promoting Russian biotechnology at the international arena.
From May 25 to 28, 2025, the city of Mbombela (South Africa) hosted the G20 Initiative on Bioeconomy (GIB) at the University of Mpumalanga. This was the first event of its scale under South Africa’s G20 presidency dedicated to the development of the bioeconomy, workforce training, and the strengthening of international cooperation. The forum brought together more than 300 representatives of G20 member states, international organizations, academia, and industry experts.
One of the key events was the presentation by the Russian delegation, which included the international unveiling of BIOPROM 2025, Russia’s leading platform that unites business, science, and government in the fields of biotechnology and sustainable development.
During the strategic session, Daria Shevyakina, Deputy Director of the Department of Chemical Industry of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and a representative of the Russian delegation, spoke about Russia’s ambitious goals in the bioeconomy, placing particular emphasis on human capital and international cooperation:
"The development of human capital is enshrined in the G20 High-Level Principles on Bioeconomy. Russia proposed that training specialists in the bioeconomy be made a priority in the future work of the GIB, as well as in the creation of a Global Platform for Bioeconomy Cooperation. This initiative will facilitate the exchange of experience and best educational practices adapted to the current needs of the industry."
Ms. Shevyakina also spoke about the upcoming BIOPROM 2025 forum, inviting G20 participants to take an active part in the event. She highlighted its importance as an international platform that brings together representatives from science, government, and business for the joint development of the biotechnology sector.
