Russia Aims to Be Bioeconomy Leader by 2036

Russia plans to take a leading position in the global bioeconomy market by 2036 through the launch of the national 'Technological Support for the Bioeconomy' project, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has announced.

The main goal of the national project is to consolidate efforts, resources, and capacities, as well as to establish competitive enterprises, which will include modernizing existing ones. This initiative aims to restore Russia's status as one of the world leaders in the biotechnology market.

Three federal projects will be implemented as part of the national one. Each of them has clearly defined socially significant outcomes and indicators, as well as measures developed to provide scientific and technological support and personnel policies. These steps aim to strengthen the nation's research base and encourage the development of unique Russian products.

"Developing the bioeconomy should have a positive overall impact on the country's economic dynamics and contribute to achieving the national goals set by the president. It will help reduce dependence on imports of a number of critically important components and expand our exports," emphasized Mikhail Mishustin.

The government expects that through the implementation of these plans, Russia will achieve technological sovereignty in the bioeconomy sector by 2030 and become one of the global leaders in this field by 2036. These goals are to be achieved by developing new markets, creating infrastructure for systematic growth, and fostering advanced scientific progress.
