Russian Scientists Develop Corneal Cell Cultivation Method to Restore Vision
Russian researchers have developed a new method for cultivating corneal cells that could significantly improve the treatment of eye injuries and accelerate vision recovery. The breakthrough was announced by the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
According to RIA Novosti, researchers from the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the IoffeInstitute have developed a technique for producing collagen matrices designed to support the regeneration of damaged organs and tissues.
Yulia Nashchekina, Lead Researcher and Head of the Tissue Engineering Group at the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained that collagen films implanted into damaged areas of the cornea not only promote the growth of cells on the surface but also stimulate their active migration from the periphery of the wound site, significantly accelerating the healing process.
The research was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation and has the potential to be applied in regenerative therapies for the treatment of vision disorders.
