Ambulatory Electronic Medical Records Become the Digital Core of Russia’s Healthcare System

By 2025, ambulatory electronic medical records (EMRs) in Russia will undergo a significant leap, fully transitioning from an IT project status to an essential, everyday tool for doctors and patients. This transformation makes EMRs a key platform for national healthcare, integrating vast amounts of data and opening new opportunities for digital medicine.

The scale of accumulated information is impressive: the Unified State Information System in Healthcare (USISZ) already contains over 1.7 billion electronic medical documents. Experts forecast that by 2026–2027, this figure will reach 2.5 billion. Such an approach greatly accelerates medical documentation processing, minimizes errors, and standardizes healthcare provider workflows. For patients, this means convenient and rapid access to their medical history, while clinics benefit from seamless information exchange, improving treatment efficiency and care coordination.

One of the key factors elevating EMRs to a new level is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). Modern algorithms already assist doctors in navigating extensive data sets more quickly, generating concise summaries of medical history, and in the future, they may automatically draft notes during consultations, freeing up time for direct patient interaction.

The development trajectory of EMRs is unmistakable: they are transforming into multifunctional cloud platforms capable of aggregating not only documentation and prescriptions but also analytical data and remote health monitoring services. In Russia, this global trend is particularly noticeable. The active development of domestic digital solutions, implementation of AI services, and expansion of remote patient monitoring create a persistent demand for modern, high-tech EMRs. In major Russian cities, they have already become the core of comprehensive digital healthcare systems.
